The River Ribble starts life on Newby Head Moss, between Oughtershaw and Gayle Moor in the watershed that separates the head waters of the River Ribble and the River Ure. The Ribble starts in Jam Syke and wends its way around the base of Whernside, through Horton-in-Ribblesdale, Stainforth, Settle and then leaves the Yorkshire Dales National Park to head across open, flat country to Preston where it empties into the Irish Sea.
Pictured above is Jam Syke near to where the River Ribble starts on Newby Head Moss.
