Wharfedale is one of the longest and most popular of the Yorkshire Dales, and is populated by the River Wharfe that passes through the villages of Buckden, Starbottom, Kettlewell, Conistone, Grassington, Linton, Thorpe, Burnsall, Drebley, Bolton Abbey, Bearnsley, Addingham and Middleton. Wharfedale is in the centre of the Yorkshire Dales, stretching north to south.
Kettlewell, in Upper Wharfedale, is the walker's mecca of the Dales, being the centre of many interesting and beautiful walks, both in the dales and in the mountains above. There is a nature reserve at Kilnsey, opposite to Conistone. The popular village of Grassington lies in the centre of Wharedale, and Bolton Abbey, another popular village, is just a little further along the dale. There is a beautiful waterfall, Linton Falls, just outside Grassington.
