Wensleydale runs from Aysgill near Leyburn to beyond Hawes, passing through the villages of Hardraw, Hawes, Bainbridge, Askrigg, Newgbiigin, Aysgarth, Redmire and Wensley. Aysgarth waterfalls, just outside the village of Aysgarth, is one of the most famous of the Yorkshire Dales waterfalls and attracts tourists from all over the UK. One of the scenes from Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves, was filmed on Aysgarth Falls. There are 3 main falls, categorised as Upper Falls, Middle Falls and Lower Falls. A car park at the National Trust centre provides easy access to the Falls via a delightful wooded footpath. The River flowing through Wensleydale is the River Ure and it is this river that Aysgarth Falls lie upon.
Hawes is a busy market town lying at one end of Wensleydale. Hawes has many cobbled streets and stone buildings that date back to Victoria times, and other houses of the 17th and 18th centuries. Near to Hawes railway is Folk Museum, displaying old agricultural and lead mining implements. The nearby Ropeworks in another interesting venue to visit in Hawes.
