The River Nidd flows through Nidderdale from its source at Nidd Head Spring on Whernside just above the Angram and Scar House Reservoirs, bypassing the village of Middlesmoor and flowing through Lofthouse and Ramsgill where it joins the Gouthwaite Reservoir and then flows through Wath, Pately Bridge, Glasshouses and Summerbridge.
The River Nidd continues its course outside of the Yorkshire Dales and passes through Harrogate to join the River Ouse just outside of York.
