The River Aire starts at Airehead, just south of Malham, where it is joined by the Malham Beck which springs from the foot of Malham Cove. Airedale starts where the Aire leaves Malhamdale just south of Aireton, and continues to Skipton. The River Aire flows along the length of Airedale, passing through Gargrave and Thorby before reaching Skipton. The river passes through the Aire Gap, a wide break in the Pennines near Skipton, and continues beyond Skipton, passing through Keighley, Bingley and Shipley, eventually joining the River Humber and emptying into the North Sea.
